It’s National Mustard Day! What’s Your Favorite?

Believe it or not, but today, August 3rd is National Mustard Day!

A favorite addition to our classic Bronco Burgers, along with freshly cut yellow onion and pickles.

Just in case you were NOT aware of today’s historic date 😁 we thought we’d share some information on it’s significance via our favorite National Day Calendar website along with a video from the mustard museum not too far away.

NATIONAL MUSTARD DAY

National Mustard Day on the first Saturday in August recognizes a versatile condiment. Used in many different cuisines, mustard comes from the seeds of the mustard plant.

Depending on the kind of mustard, flavors and color will vary. For example, white or yellow mustard comes from a mustard known as Sinapis hirta. Brown or Indian mustard comes from Brassica juncea. And black mustard comes from Brassica nigra.

The mustard seed may be used whole, ground, cracked, or bruised in cooking, too. When mixed with liquids such as water, lemon juice, or broth, mustard produces different textures and flavors. At times, cooks use the paste as a sauce or even a marinade. Try mixing mustard with other seasonings to create a dry rub for roasts, chicken, or chops.  > Read More

For many, the only mustard they’ve ever used is that yellow stuff that comes out of the yellow container with the nice red flag.  Me too, and I’ve eaten gallons of the stuff and still love it.  But there are hundreds of different kinds of mustard and if you’ve visited the Mustard Museum you’ve learned probably more than you wanted about mustard.

Not far from Omaha is a quaint little place that has been drawing a LOT of interest over the past few years.  It’s the National Mustard Museum in Middleton, Wisconsin.  It’s open 7 days a week and not only educates visitors on the wonders of this golden condiment of ours, but sells probably every kind of mustard on the market.  They even have their own line of specialty mustards made just for them.

They are also home of their own university.  Yes, many of you have probably already guessed it.  It’s Poupon University, or affectionately referred to as Poupon U.  Childish I know, (but funny right?).
